Damned—But Not Publishing
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Mar. 24. Six model railway enthusiasts who publish a monthly magazine from the garage of a house in Mount Albert have decided to bow to a Borough Council demand that they remove their printing press. At the same time they will ask the council to rescind its resolution declaring the press a commercial venture in a residential area, and to apologise for threatening to take legal action. The council told the owners of the garage, Mr and Mrs E. R. Cunning-
ham, of 18 Fergusson avenue, that unless the press was removed by March 12. legal action might be taken.
March 12 came and went and the press stood firm.
Now the enthusiasts plan to shift premises to Glen Eden on April 2. On April 19 they will take a deputation to the meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council. One of the amateur printers, Warren Cunningham, aged 25, a son of the Cunninghams, said tonight: “We want the council to rescind the motion saying that we are break-
Ing the law—which we are not
“And we want an apology. If they maintain this attitude a lot of other people in the borough will be affected.” Mr Cunningham said he was confident the council would rescind the motion.
The Glen Eden Borough Council hss granted the enthusiasts use of its press in a shop in West Coast road.
They plan to move there on April 2, and will have to pay £6 a week rent The magazine already runs at a loss.
