Minister Disagrees
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 24. The Minister of Housing (Mr Rae) said later tonight, that he disagreed with Cr. Porter’s claim that the Government had shown a lack of cooperation over Wellington housing. Mr Rae said he formed the urban renewal study group in 1964 to look into ways in which decaying city centre areas could be replaced by balanced
planning with multi-storey housing units. The report would require Government participation, but putting it into effect involved the Wellington City Council, other local bodies and private enterprise as well, he said. “All the information I have is that there has been the utmost cooperation between Government officers and the council,” said Mr Rae.
