FREEZING DISPUTE
No Ki II ng Again (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Mar. 24. No beef cattle were killed at the Westfield Freezing Company works today as the dispute involving the company, its 16 beef dressers and 250 other freezing workers, entered its fourth day. The beef dressers walked off the job on Monday in protest against a demand that they kill beef cattle at maximum capacity during the erection of safety equipment.
The 250 other workers were then dismissed by the company, and no killing has been done since noon on Monday. The president of the Auckland Freezing Workers’ Union, Mr F. H. Barnard, said no proposals were made today by the company. Talks may be held tomorrow.
The president of the Federation of Labour (Mr T. E. Skinner) said the F.O.L. had not yet been handed the dispute, although a stop-work meeting of freezing workers voted on Wednesday to call in the F.O.L.
