HORORATA CLUB

Approval Of Move Sought

Approval of an agreement to race at Rangiora Raceway will be sought at a special general meeting of members of the Hororata Trotting Club next Wednesday. More than 80 members at a special meeting held in November decided by a narrow margin to centralise at Rangiora. This had been recommended unanimously by the committee after the possibility of racing on a number of courses had been considered. Although the agreement is most advantageous to the Hororata club, strong opposition to it is expected from many of those who opposed the proposal to centralise when it was discussed in November.

The Hororata Racing Club centralised at Riccarton this season and this left the trotting club with the task of maintaining the course. The club faces heavy immediate expenditure to maintain present amenities and that was the main reason why the committee recommended centralisation.

Mr Dickens Exchanged “The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. Mr Dickens, a five-year-old formerly trained at Matamata by L. W. Ford, has been taken over in an exchange by the Waiuku trainer, M. C. Conway. Ford will get in return one of Conway's team. A good winner on the flat, Mr Dickens has shown plenty of promise in his schooling as a jumper, but because of trouble in a joint he has yet to race over fences. Ford, who is a part-owner, hopes that the horse will better stand a preparation of beach training. The last time Mr Dickens raced was when he finished unplaced as favourite in the Rotorua Cup on February-12. That was his sixth race since he resumed racing after a spell. In his first eight starts last season, until the late spring, he secured three firsts and three minor placings. Ashburton Fields Faircourt (12) 7-7 and Lianawyn (8) 7-7 are additional acceptors for the Coldstream Handicap at' Ashburton next Monday. No Smoke (8) has 8-3 and Baron’s Lady (2) has 8-2 in the Alford Hack Handicap.
