HERMITAGE AREA
Board Pleased With Support
The chairman of the Mount Cook National Park Board (Mr N. S. Coad) said yesterday that he was gratified with the big increase in public support for the board’s plans in the Hermitage area. Mr Coad was commenting on joint resolutions passed this week by the Canterbury Progress League, the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and the South Island Publicity Association. “We are delighted that such important organisations which represent a key section of public opinion, are behind the plans for the area,” he said. “The board agrees with the resolution that more beds are needed at the Hermitage for this coming tourist season summer and hopes that the deputation from the three bodies to the Ministers concerned will have good results. “The board has for some time been pressing the National Roads Board to seal the road to the Hermitage because we realise that this is the key to the tourist development of the area. “We hope that the efforts of the organisations will help to speed up the sealing of the road.”
