JAPANESE LOSE

GV Z. Press Association) . WELLINGTON. The Doshisha University Rugby team lost the second match of its New Zealand tour when it was beaten. 24-8, by Victoria University at Athletic Park yesterday. As in their first match against Canterbury University last Sunday, the light-weight Japanese forwards could not gain enough possession to give their fast backs enough opportunities to score. The Japanese player who caught the crowd’s fancy was the second five-eighths, O. Wurano. He played brilliantly with a sense of balance, an eye for the gap and great acceleration. At centre. H. Ishizuka had many of the same attributes and on the wing Y. Sakata' was full of possibilities. I

It was Sakata who initiated Doshisha’s magnificent try. He moved into a back movement near his own 25, broke through, and then with his team backing up superbly, was able to start a sequence of close-passing which resulted in the number eight, H. Ishizuka. scoring. The hardest - working Japanese forward was M. Okada and fastest and most dangerous, K. Kuroda. For Doshisha, Ishizuka scored a try and S. Maiwa kicked a conversion and a penalty goal. For Victoria, tries were scored by J. Osborne, C. , Mantell, W. R. Strang, G. Weinberg and J. Gibbons. GJ L. Herraansson converted; three and kicked a penalty. 1 The score at half-time was i 13-8.
