(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, March 23
New Zealanders could be open to exploitation bypeople selling forged rare coins, said Mr P. Blakeborough, organiser of a coin display in Auckland. He said people had been bringing in numbers of forged coins. One coin which Mr Blakeborough was concerned about was the 1956 “strapless” halfpenny. This coin was supposed to have the portrait of the Queen without the line, which appears from 1956 onwards. on the shoulder.
He is almost certain that no authentic examples exist, but he has seen two forgeries in Auckland, so far.
