WHANGAREL March 23.
The dolphin which is staying in the Black Rock Pool in the Waihau river, near Rahiri, Hokianga, voraciously ate whole mullet fed to it by Mr T. Heperi, of Rahiri, at intervals yesterday. It also had a meal of snapper supplied by Mrs R. A. Dobbs, wife of the headmaster of the local school. More than 700 people yesterday saw the dolphin swimming and spouting in the pool, which is 30 miles from Hokianga Heads. It has been identified by Mr A. Dobbins, a trainer from the Napier Marine aquarium, as a bottlenose (Turiops truncatus) variety. It was a little shy of swimmers.
