Sukarno's Alternatives
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) SINGAPORE, Mar. 23. The new military regime in Indonesia is said to have given President Sukarno three alternatives on his future role, reports reaching Singapore said today. The reports, carried by well-informed travellers. said these alternatives are: ' 1. That he leave Indon-
esia for a long “recuperation and rest” tour. 2. That he stay in Indonesia and submit gracefully to being a figurehead President. X That he submit to full invasion of his remaining powers and prestige and be forced to resign. The reports said that the Army chief, Lieuten-ant-General Suharto, is
said to be suggesting to President Sukarno that he accept the first alternative.
They said the alternatives were transmitted to the 64-year-old President through his Japaneseborn wife, Ratna Sari Dewi. They said General Suharto suggested President Sukarno make a trip to Mecca or Japan.
