RAISING H-BOMB
Seas Cause Halt
(N ZP A -Reuter—Copyright) PALOMARES (Spain). March 23. Rough seas and brisk
winds have again halted efforts to raise a missing American nuclear bomb from the depths of the Mediterranean near Palomares.
Salvage operations began normally yesterday morning in fine weather, but by noon the water was so rough that two midget submarines aiding in the operation had to give up.
Two days of choppy seas and cold winds have been hampering recovery. Salvage teams are trying to prevent the bomb from slipping into a narrow undersea fissure. At the moment it lies some 2500 feet down, balanced precariously on a steep slope.
