MACHINERY DISPLAY
Part In Church Service
Farm machinery will be parked in the car park of the Christchurch Methodist Central Mission and Cambridge terrace Methodist church next Sunday evening. The machinery will form the outside part of a display of manufactured goods made in Christchurch arranged by the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association for the special harvest thanksgiving service to be held in the church that evening. Traditionally the emphasis in harvest thanksgiving services was on the fruits of the garden and field, but the products of a city were much wider than these, and this year’s service was an attempt to relate the thanksgiving more realistically to the articles produced during the week by the city dwellers who formed the congregation, said the Rev. W. E. Falkingham, superintendent of the mission. A variety of Christchurch manufactured goods will be displayed in the foyer of the church and behind the communion rail. Representatives of the Manufacturers’ Association and trade unions have been invited to attend the service, and the lessons will be read by some of them The service will start at 7.30 p.m. and will be conducted by Mr Falkingham and the Rev. A. R. Bowden, also of the Central Mission.
