More than £llOO worth of smuggled goods was found on the Turakina. on Saturday, after £lOOO worth was confiscated on Friday. The total of £2lOO is among the top hauls which have been taken in Auckland. The largest was valued about £2500 . The contraband was found by four customs officials searching all day Friday, and three all day on Saturday. Most was found in the engineroom.
The goods consisted of 138 transistor radios. 16 binoculars, 119 gas lighters, and 960 cigars.
Eighteen of the radios were useless when found. They had been concealed in an oven which had been switched on accidentally.
