Children’s Court Boy Burglar Sentenced To Periodic Detention

A 16-year-old boy, who was convicted on three charges of burglary and three of unlawfully taking motor-vehicles by Mr E. S. J. Crutchley, S.M., in the Children’s Court in February, was sentenced to the periodic detention centre for a year. He was disqualified from holding a driver's licence for a year and was ordered to make restitution of £56 2s 4d.

An 11-year-old boy, deemed to be an indigent child, and a boy aged 10 found living in an environment detrimental to his moral well-being, were committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare. Two girls, aged 12 and 14, and a boy aged 13. wtjo appeared on complaints that they were not under proper control, were similarly dealt with. Three girls, aged 12 and 13, were placed under supervision for two years on complaints that they were not under proper control. A similar period of supervision was ordered for a three-year-old girl who was deemed to be an indigent child. cycle, were also admonished and returned to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare.

Three boys, aged 13 to 16. charged with theft, were admonished and discharged, as was a boy aged 11, who unlawfully got on to a bicycle. Similarly dealt with were a boy 14, on a charge of burglary, and a boy aged 17, who was found unlawfully on premises.

Offenders Fined

On charges relating to the drinking of liquor in a public place, three 16-year-old boys and another of 17 were fined from £3 to £5 each. For driving in a dangerous manner, failing to stop, and failing to ascertain if any person were injured, a 17-year-old boy was fined £lO and disqualified from holding a driver’s licence for 18 months, and his licence was endorsed for three years.

Others fined were a boy aged 17, charged with common assault (£10), a boy aged 16, charged with obstruction (£5), two 14-year-old boys charged with leaving broken glass in a public place (10s each), a 15-year-old boy on a charge of theft (£3), a 16-year-old boy charged with unlawful sexual intercourse (£10), a boy aged 16, for unlawfully getting into a car (£10), a 15-year-old boy who admitted fighting in a public place (£2), a boy aged 17, charged with obstruction (£3), and a boy aged 16, who procured possession of a firearm without a permit (£2).
