PLAN FOR PARTY
Waikato Farmers GV.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, March 22. A new farmers* political party is being discussed in the lower Waikato area, particularly in the districts between Huntly and Tuakau. Such a party might grow out of the lower Waikato Flood Protection and River Improvement Association which will probably sponsor a candidate or candidates in this year’s General Election. At last night's annual meeting of the association, the president (Mr W. G. Welch) said the association would put up “independent” candidates. He said there might be a number of candidates in different electorates. Asked today if a new party might be formed, the organisation’s secretary, Mr J. Richards, of Huntly, said that this possibility had been discussed. At present the association was “very seriously” considering putting up a candidate or candidates.
