Liner Hit Whale

AUCKLAND, March 22
The Mariposa, now in Auckland, will go into dry dock to repair rudder damage on reaching Sydney. The damage was received when the liner hit a whale after leaving Los Angeles.
The whale is believed to have dived in front of the ship. The captain thought he had missed the whale but it came up under the stem. It was cut by the propeller and caused damage to the rudder. Matson Line officials flew to Auckland yesterday from San
