ADDINGTON MARKET Big Yardings Of Fat Values Mainly Firm

Yardings were again substantial at the Addington fat stock market yesterday, but values were generally firm.

Fat wethers recovered their decline of 4s to 5s over the closing stages of last week’s sale, and fat ewes again met a firm demand, although at some stages they were considered easier on last week’s rates.

Fat cattle again sold well, heifers selling to £5112s 6d and cows to the remarkably high figure of £56 12s 6d. Steers opened firmly, but over the closing stages eased.

With several large consignments of beef-bred cattle the store cattle section was the best in quality for a considerable time. Values were very good, some lines of steers averaging more than £4O a head. Fat Lambs For the second week In succession, there was a large yarding of fat lambs, some of them having to be accommodated in the fat sheep section. While there was a greater number of light-weights than last week, the sale was firm throughout, with good competition from freezing works buyers as well as butchers.
