Film Ban Reversed
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Mar. 18.
An appeal against the banning of the film “The Knack” has heen allowed by the Cinematograph Films Censorship Board. The board’s decision restricts showing to persons 18 years and over. The film was banned on October 5 by the film censor (Mr D. C. Mclntosh) on the grounds it was opposed to public decency and undesirable in the public interest. The appeal board comprised Judge W. F. Still-
well; Mr A. Eaton Hurley, a Wellington barrister and solicitor; and Miss M. J. Clark, a Wellington City councillor and a former principal of Wellington Girls’ College.
“The Knack” won the top award, the Golden Palm, at the Cannes International Film Festival last year. It was directed by Richard Lester, whose films include two with the Beatles, and starred Rita Tusliingham, who also had the leading role in the play on which the comedy was based.
