Grand Filou, Palisade Stars At Trentham
•‘The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. Grand Filou retained his admirers lor the Chalmers Handicap and gained new ones when he galloped at Trentham yesterday. Other fine trials were by Peterman and Boodle, Creolian. Palisade, Dunmure and Cap tain's Command Galloping was on the course proper, slightly over the true distance. The going was perfect, but there were showers during the work and later in the morning. Grand Filou (Willetts) had Kowloon (N. Riordan) covered after a mile in Imin 42 l-ssec. They ran fast early, the last three furlongs in 38sec. with Grand Filou loafing after he reached the front. Palisade (A. I. Powell) ran strongly over a mile tn Imin 45 2-ssec. He ran the last half in 50 2-ssec and was joined by Warfare (R. J. Pledger) before the three furlongs, the two taking 36 3-ssec for the last section. Peterman (Riordan) and Boodle <Miss P. Carson) ran seven furlongs smartly and were timed for the last five in Imin 6sec, the last four in 50 3-ssec and the three in 37sec. Peterman is the likely favourite for the North Island Challenge Stakes and on this gallop Boodle would be a likely prospect for the Thompson Handicap. Captain's Command (A. 1. Powell) ran half a mile with apparent ease, but recorded the good time of 47 4-ssec. the last three furlongs in 35 2-ssec Dunmure <Holmes), with a lighter weight than Captain's Command sped over the same distance in 47 l-ssec, the last three furlongs in 34 4-ssec Rohe Potae (Miss Carson) covered five furlongs in Imin sJsec, the last three in 37sec. He was galloping scratchily. as usual, and loafing, also as usual. Terrific (Willetts) and Sir Oman (Riordan) ran quietly from the mile, the last three furlongs sedately in 40sec. Something Special (Riordan) went evenly over a mile in Imin 44sec, the last three furlongs in SSsec. This gallop brought him a little more into favour for the Chalmers Handicap.
Roganne (Willetts) was better than Flying Gib (Riordan) after five furlongs in Imin 7sec, the last three in 38Jsec. Twigfield (Aekland) started from the mile and a quarter, but galloped only the last half-mile in olsec. Creolian (Willetts) ran a fine five furlongs with Udare <Rior dan>. Although they finished to aether. Creolian appeared to be doing the better, and might be In the Thompson Handicap finish.
