I . ■ f.V.Z. Press Association) J WELLINGTON. March 3. The Minister of OverI seas Trade (Mr Marshall) today commended freezf ing companies and meat 1 exporters for their lead in cutting and packaging « New Zealand meat for ■ overseas markets. I Speaking at a lamb cutting competition in Petone, he said about 80 per cent of beef exports and a small—but increasing—proportion of lamb exports, were now being cut • and packaged for the congsumer. I “This has considerable advantage for us because it means we can earn more in loverseas funds by employing tour own labour in New Zealand and adding the value of Ithe labour to the product,” said Mr MarshallHe said that by cutting and packaging, exporters avoided having to send much of the bone in the meat—thus avoiding paying extra freight on unproductive content.
