SUBANDRIO STEADY

Indonesia’s much vilified First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister, Dr. Subandrio, has weathered five months of near political to emerge strongly at President Sukarno’s side. Since last October’s aborli'e coup, anti-Communist led by students, have reviled Dr. Subandrio ? s an opportunist and called for his scalp. Military leaders who crushed the coup attempted to coldshoulder him, forcing the President to declare that he would not dismiss him. Critics, both in Indonesia sn d abroad, predicted that his disappearance from the scene was a matter of time.
