Australia Bans Two (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, March 3. The Customs Department has banned two books from entry into Australia. The Commonwealth Gazette today announced bans on the import of “The Before Midnight Scholar,” by the Chinese author, Li Yu, and “The Thief's Journal,” by the French author, Jean Genet The first book is reported to be a diary in which a 17th century Chinese author relates his sexual encounters. The second is said to be an account of a French homosexual’s experiences in French gaols.
