A Tauranga man was killed when assisting with a check on a lift at the Tauranga Hospital at about 9.45 a.m. today.
He was: Walter James Witts, aged 59. of Ngatai road.
He was riding on top of the lift while assisting a mechanic to trace a noise.
The Tauranga police said tonight that the man was hit by the counter-weight and part of his body was dragged down the side of the lift and crushed. He was a married man with twin daughters, aged 12.
