Micheline, Frigid May Win Wairoa Double

“The Press" Special Service

WELLINGTON.

Heavy rain, which has soaked the Wairoa track, has brought Micheline into strong favour for the Wairoa Cup, first leg of the TA.B. double at the Wairoa Racing Club’s meeting todav.

On a firm track, which did not suit her, at Poverty Bay last Saturdaj’ Micheline went a good race. She will be ridden today by W. D. Skelton, who was in brilliant form at Masterton yesterday, riding four winners.

Another likely Improver from Gisborne is Calm Comet. He has a fine record and has been working well. Sir Barton should be better suited by the track than Dalvui or Diacol, though the latter showed his fitness with a good second at Gisborne. Gyross, whose form is not easy to follow’, Count Down and Pinocchio might be the best of the others. Frigid, which scored impressively in hack company at Gisborne. is selected to win the second leg. the Summer Hack Handicap. He is by Resurgent so the soft track is unlikely to bother him. Dreamon has been' racing consistently and could prove Frigid’s strongest rival, while Henna looks the pick of the light-weights.
