CONVERSION OF CARS
Theft Offence Not Favoured
(N.Z. Press Association)
INVERCARGILL, Mar. 1
A claim that there would be fewer cases of car conversion if tlie offence was classed as theft was made by Mr R. C. Sampson (Taranaki) in moving a remit at the annual conference of the Federation of Justices Associations in Invercargill today. The remit asked that car conversion be classed as theft. But Mr B. L. Dallard (Wellington) said the remit had been presented for several years. He said the difficulty of, getting convictions for theft had led to the introduction of the crime of conversion.
The penalty for conversion had been increased over the years. He did not see that any good would come of pursuing the remit
