DOW LIFTS OFFER
20c More For Am. Chem. (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) MELBOURNE, March 1. Dow Chemicals International has increased its offer for shares in Amalgamated Chemicals, Ltd., from 1.10 dollars to 1.40 dollars. The latest Dow offer is 20c above the counter-offer at 1.20 dollars for the shares made by the Continental Oil Company of the United States on February 17. Continental’s offer was “strongly” recommended by the directors of Amalgamated. Dow’s latest offer is for 65 per cent of the holdings of Amalgamated shareholders. Previously Dow had only offered to acquire 51 per cent, but Continental Oil Company offered to buy 65 per cent.
