Overseas Stocks Lose Ground In Trading
Overseas stocks lost ground in yesterday’s trading as the margin between falls and rises by New Zealand issues narrowed slightly, giving the market an over-all tone similar to that of Monday’. New Zealand leaders were almost in balance, while key Australian stocks were marked back.
Featured among New Zealand gains was 1.C.1. (N.Z.) with a rise of 3d to 20s 3d in Wellington, but there were sales in Christchurch and Auckland at a steady 20s. Recoveries of 3d each were made by Alex Harvey, J. Burns, New Zealand Refining and Woolworths New Zealand. Wilson and Horton lost Is 6d to 25s after easing on home market quotation. E.Z. Industries continued to advance with a rise of 9d more to 20s 9d. A.C.1., Boral, 8.H.P., C.S.R. and G. J. Coles declined.
