Tax On Hospital Equipment

Sir, —I read with disgust a minute news item, at the bottom of a column, without even a heading in “The Press” last Thursday, that the North Canterbury Hospital Board is to pay tax and duty on a piece of equipment costing £65,270 for use in the treatment of cancer in the Christchurch Hospital. This seems very strange policy for a Government that can afford to give away hundreds of thousands of pounds in foreign aid.— Yours, etc., PERCY L. McMILLAN. Saltwater Creek, March 1. 1966.
