110TH YEAR OF TRADING Minsons, Ltd., To Mark Anniversary The hardware firm of Minsons, Ltd., will next year mark the 110th anniversary of the business. Various events this year, including this supplement, will lead up to the celebrations of next year. Today the store will have on display a collection of hardware such as might have been sold in the shop last century. There is also a model kitchen of the years 1850 to 1860 which has been arranged by Mrs M. E. Orchard, the Canterbury provincial secretary of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. An 1851 copy of the “Lyttelton Times” is included in the display. In May it is hoped to organise a display of children’s toys of about a century ago. s® ® «a In the same month the firm will take part in the Soroptomists’ Club’s competition of brides with a show of bridal wear of the 1850 s through to the Charleston period. A branch shop in Bishopdale is planned to open later this year. A history of the company is being written by Mr H. M. Minson, a director and former manager of the company. He has done extensive research on the early men in the business and the writer of this supplement has relied heavily on Mr Minson’s material.
