Motor-Cycling N.Z. Title To Andrews

NEW PLYMOUTH. R. Andrews (Auckland) thrilled spectators with his brilliant riding in winning the New Zealand dirt track motor-cycle championships at the Waiwakaiho speedway, New Plymouth, for the first time on Saturday night. Andrews won all his five events to gain a maximum of 15 points, broke the track record four times, and was within twotenths of a second of the old record for the fifth.
The record was formerly held by D. Gifford and Andrews with Imin 18.3 sec, but in the first race of the programme Andrews cut this to lmin 17.5 sec, and in his next appearance cut it again by a tenth of a second. Later, pushed by B. Duckworth, he took lmin 15.8 sec for the fastest time of the night and a new track record. His last race time was lmin 18sec. M. Burt (Christchurch), a former title-holder, was second with 13 points gained by three wins and two second places, followed by B. Subritzsky (Auckland) with 12 points.
