CATCHING CENTURY

When M. C. Cowdrey, tha England vice-captain, caught M. E. Chapple, the New Zealand captain, in the test match at Lancaster Park yesterday he became only the second man in the history of the game to take 100 catches in test matches. The other was W. R. Hammond, who made 110 catches in 85 tests. The present game is Cowdrey’s 84th test match. Cowdrey took his catch on almost the same spot Hammond was on when he took the last of his test catches in 1947.
