LAUNCH SINKS
Five Rescued From River
Four Rangiora men trawling in the Waimakariri River near its confluence with the Cam river on Sunday had an unusual “catch” when they rescued five persons from a sunken launch. The launch was travelling downstream towards Kairaki and the mouth of the river when the plywood bottom fell out and the boat sank in waist-deep water. The four men waded through the chopipy water to rescue two men and three children who, although uninjured, were badly shaken.
