Waikato Incomes
Sir, —A recent issue of “The Press” carried a report concerning the allegedly low taxable incomes of Waikato farmers—l think that th.e report mentioned an average of £lOOO p.a. I shouldn’t be surprised at that! Visiting the homestead of a prosperous Waikato dairy farm last year, I admired a new station waggon, a latest model famousname refrigerator, a new hovercraft-type vacuum cleaner, a new automatic washer and a new console television set. The farmer’s wife commented unenthusiastically: “We have to get them to avoid the taxation. ...” I know they play radio music to the cows at milking time, but what do they do with the television? Show the cows “Mr Ed.?”—Yours, etc., CITY DWELLER. February 28, 1966.
