YOUR HELP ASKED

An increasing influx of gardeners’ queries over the last few weeks prompts me to ask once again for your fullest assistance concerning adequate details and specimens. It is virtually impossible to make accurate diagnosis from mutilated, inadequate or non-exis-tent specimens. Badly wrapped or poor samples are frequently received. Please assist by sending at least two or three fully representative specimens, where at all possible, and wrap them in damp newspaper, cloth, moss or cotton wool, or place in a perforated plas-

tic bag. Include a flower if you can. Relevant information, including such details as chemicals or fertilisers which have been used, and associated history should accompany any material sent in for comment on this page. In other words, you can assist me to be of assistance to you. It is impossible to give personal answers other than through this column and it is not the general policy to divulge the the names of specific products or give the names of trading firms. Sometimes, too, it is not possible to give immediate answers as space does not always permit.
