Husband Is Her Business Rival
Friendly rivalry is the way Lady Polwarth describes her business relationship with her husband, Lord Polwarth, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Scotland. The Scotch couple own adjoining sheep farms, but Lady Polwarth says she is quite independent.
Ten years ago when land next to her husband’s estate was offered for sale Lady Polwarth bought 1200 acres and now has 600 breeding stock. “I am most interested of course to see just where the Canterbury lamb comes from,” she said. Her own stock is the hardy Blackface breed which lives out all through the long cold winter. “Lambing is often worrying, especially during the last few years when our weather has been so bad. I often have to take lambs and feed them, but I enjoy that,” Lady Polwarth said. Lady Polwarth was raised in the country and has always liked the life. The isolation of her husband’s estate, which has been in the family for more than 300 years, does not worry her. i “We live in the border country, off the beaten track Our home is an old country house, but not too large and
Iwe have renewed it so we are quite cosy,” she said. They have four children, and all enjoy riding and hunting.
