BURNSIDE H.S.

80 Refused Entry More than 80 prospective pupils had to be refused admission to the Burnside High School, the headmaster (Mr C. Cross) told a meeting of the school’s board of governors last evening. Mr Cross reported that 306 third-formers had been admitted, making the school’s total roll 1020. “If we did have the room, we would take them,” he said. “The school* was planned to be this size, and it is just impracticable to take any more.” Equipment Pool Because two applications for science equipment have been refused by the department, the board will approach the Christchurch Secondary Schools’ Council to ask that a pool be set up of scientific equipment to be shared among several schools. “Such items as a geiger counter, which is really essential but not used frequently, could be held in a common pool which all Christchurch schools could draw from,” Mr Cross said.
