International Wardrobes
Three Pan-American pursers now visiting Christchurch have taken advantage of their regular flights to the world’s major cities to acquire an international wardrobe.
They are Miss Mary Gillett of Christchurch, Miss Sheila Riley of Manchester, and Miss Christine Meyer of Munich. The girls said yesterday that they buy their gloves and shoes in Rome, perfume and lingerie in Paris, their clothes in London and New York, gold in Beirut, pearls in Tokyo, and star sapphires and Thai silks in Bangkok. They are at present on
annual holiday and are staying with Miss Gillett’s parents before going on to Alice Springs and the Barrier Reef. “We like to go to unusual places,” said Miss Gillett. They have all done a world tour and last year Misses Riley and Gillett visited Russia and other Communist countries which they found very interesting, but they were pleased they did not have to live in any. All three women are based 1 in New York, a city which they described as stimulating and never boring.
