Objection To Site
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 9. A decision on siting oil or gas-fired generators on the 160-acre site owned by the Electricity Department at Otara should not be taken until certain technical questions were answered, the Mayor of Manukau (Mr H. D. Lambie) said this evening. Mr Lambie headed a delegation of five from Manukau city to the Minister of Electricity (Mr Shand) in Wellington today to protest against the siting of generators in a residential area. “We are opposed on the grounds of noise, vibration land air pollution," he said. ’ "Mr Shand's advisers have | told him that there will be ino noise or vibration, and | that a chimney stack will be | sufficient to disperse any fumes—which in any case, they say, will be limited. “To be fair, they base this advice on reports of a Swedish station which is situated in an urban area. But we would like more first-hand knowledge.”
