EXPOSED RIDGE

Successful Traverse (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, February 9. The first successful traverse of the precipitous exposed ridge between Mt. Annan (9667 ft and Mt. Darwin (9715 ft in the Mt. Cook region, was completed on Tuesday. The successful climbers, Mr D. Smythe, a summer guide for the park board, and Dr. B. Waterhouse, of the Geological Survey, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, left the Tasman Saddle hut at 6.30 a.m. on Tuesday and climbed for 12 hours, three hours and a half of which was spent on the ridge, which was found to be rotten rock. The party returned to the hut at 6 p.m. that day. Ranger I. M. Ore, of the Mt. Cook National Park Board headquarters, said this evening that the climb had been attempted on several occasions.
