China and North Korea last night renewed their pledge to march shoulder to shoulder against “United States imperialism” and support the anti-Ameri-can struggle in Vietnam. Mr Li Tien-yu. Deputy, Chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, said that the
United States was shifting its; strategic focus from Europe! to Asia and preparing toj launch an all-out aggressive' war there. The New China News! Agency quoted him as saying: “No matter how United ! States imperialism threatens | us and no matter how farj United States imperialism may ■ expand the war. we will un-■ swervingly stand with thel peoples of Korea. Vietnam; and the whole world and dO| our part to defeat United j States imperialism thoroughly j and bury that number one' war criminal." “Smokescreen" Colonel Choi Je-yung. mili-l tary attache of the North i Korean Embassy in Peking, accused the United States of I trying to expand the Vietnam ; war to the whole of Indo-1 China behind the smokescreen: of neace talks. “The Korean people will I support with all their might I the Vietnamese people's fight against United States imperialism." he said. anti-imperialist forces to "manacle Japanese militarism.” Japanese militarism was trying to revive its dream of a Greater East Asia Coprosperity Sphere and must be prevented from serving as a shock brigade of United States imperialist aggression in Asia, he said.
North Korea had armed its whole population and turned the whole country into an impregnable fortress. But, he warned: “We must carry on the struggle and combat the false air of peace so that it will be impossible for the modern revisionist trend of fear of war to attack us from within.”
