Mr. Armishaw Retires
The recent retirement of Mr E. C. Armishaw (Auckland) because of ill health ended a career of over 40 years association with boxing. Mr Armishaw has in turn been a fighter, trainer and referee. He had his first fight at the Trentham Military Camp when he was 15. In 1925 and 1927 he won the Auckland amateur welter-weight title; in New Zealand championships he won the welterweight title in 1927 after being runner-up two years previously. Upon his retirement from boxing he became a trainer but he was best known as a referee, a position he held with the Auckland Boxing Association for 25 years. It is estimated that he officiated at more than 3000 bouts, amateur and professional.
