WORKER CRUSHED
Flown To Hospital (N.Z. Press Association) WANGANUI, Jan. 31. A helicopter this afternoon rushed to the Wanganui Hospital a man who had been crushed by a truck at the isolated settlement of Ngamatapouri, 52 miles north of Wanganui.
The man, Thomas Edward Bourke, aged 30, single, an employee of the Waverley Carrying Company, was crushed against a wool shed. He suffered several broken ribs and other injuries. The helicopter, piloted by Mr 1. S. Wakeling, took off from Wanganui at 3.15 p.m. and picked up Mr Bourke 20 minutes later.
The helicopter headed straight for the hospital and touched down on the lawn in front of the main block at 4.10 p.m. An emergency team, warned by radio, was waiting at the hospital.
Mr Bourke was in a comfortable condition tonight. The helicopter is owned by Alexander Helicopters, Ltd.
