Wharemii’s Close Win

In * senior water polo match which was close and exciting until the final whittle, Wharenul beat FendaSton by 5 goal* to 4 last night. In the final quarter the play changed from one end ot the pool to the other, but Wharenui with quicker movement* head on to Ma advanChrtatchurch defeated Beckenham B principally by the efforts ot th* Canterbury representative, P. Hatchwell, and the noted surfer, D. Bradley, each of whom scored three goals. Beckenham B maintained the

pressure untel the end but could not avert a S-3 lows.

From the initial swim-up M. McGirr won the ball for Whareoui and this team continually fed its sitting centre-forward, L. WlCson, W".»on had two hard shots early in the match, but both inlawed the goal by Inches.

However, hte team-mate and captaila, R. Erickson, made amends by scoring tn the corner.

In the second quarter Wdtoon scored beautifully although marked closely by B. Sutherland. but from the throw-off

Bradley, for Christchurch, put his team back into the lead with two goals and a penaoty. A tong shot by Hatchwell gave the wide victory by six goae to three.
