Canberra Defence Talks
Sir, —The failure of Mr Holyoake to attend the meeting in Canberra has attracted unjust criticism. Or do his critics really advocate wider powers for our Prime Minister to commit our country, without first placing facts before his Cabinet and Parliament—an undertaking which Mr Eyre is quite capable of carrying out? This matter is not bad reaction by Mr Holyoake, rather is it an error by Mr Holt in asking a- fellow Prime Minister to attend what is quite obviously a “round table” of defence Ministers. The R.S.A. and others would be just as verbose had our Prime Minister gone and committed us in some way. I disagree with many National Party actions but hope I never lose a sense of proper perspective.—Yours etc., LIBERAL THINKER. January 31, 1966.
