Lonesome Valley Is Tauranga Pick

"The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND. Eleven mobile starts will be featured on the opening day of the Bay of Plenty Trotting Club’s meeting today. The nine-race card includes three events which are almost certain to be run in divisions.

Only the main race for trotters, the Mount Handicap, will have a standing start. The mobile barrier has been widened to allow full use of the Tauranga track and more horses will start in the front row than at other courses. Lonesome Valley looks certain to be a strong favourite in the President’s Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double. He has an impressive record this season.

In seven starts he has had three wins, two seconds and two thirds. He was narrowly beaten by Chequer Board at Cambridge on January 8 at his last start. The consistent Bonjour looks a good prospect for the second leg, the Higginson Memorial. He was only just beaten by Lowry Bay at his last start. In four

starts previously he had a second and three fourths. Final Shot and Overluck will also be well backed. Both have raced well but unluckily. Continued fine weather is forecast and the track will be fast.
