TWO NAVY ’COPTERS

£lm. Contract Signed (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 28. A contract was signed today between the Westland Aircraft Company and the New Zealand Government for the supply of two Wasp helicopters. The aircraft are intended for operations from a Leand-er-class frigate which is being constructed in the United Kingdom by Harland and Wolff.

The first helicopter is due for delivery in July, and will join the frigate when it leaves for New Zealand later this year. The second will be delivered direct to New Zealand in the autumn.

Powered by a Bristol Siddeley Nimbus engine, the fiveseat Wasp is capable of operating in anti-submarine, air-sea rescue, casualty evacuation, and liaison roles. The value of the order, including spares and equipment is £250,000.

Alps Climbs.—Three Australians climbed Hochstetter Dome, 9258 ft in the Mount Cook area yesterday. Mr D. Smythe, a Mount Cook Park Board assistant and Mr J. Townsend (Christchurch) climbed Anzac Peak from the Plateau Hut.—(F.O.O.R.)
