GOODS FOR N.I.
Limited Space On Aramoana
The resumption of industry after the holidays has brought a heavy demand for space for north-bound goods on the Railways Department’s rail ferry Aramoana, according to the Christchurch District Traffic Manager of Railways (Mr M. R. Leineweber). Mr Leineweber said that, coupled with that demand, heavy bookings made months ago for motor vehicles further reduced the deck space available for waggons of goods. The position would be particularly acute next week, he said, and the department had been compelled to severely ration orders for north-bound goods. Although the demand should ease slightly the following week, rationing undoubtedly would be necessary until the Aramoana’s sister ship, Aranui, entered the service.
