U.K. Diplomat To See Test
The British High Commissioner in New Zealand (Sir lan Maclennan) will visit Christchurch for three days next month. His visit has been arranged to coincide with the cricket test between the M.C.C. and New Zealand. Sir lan Maclennan, accompanied by Lady Maclennan, will arrive by air on February 24. On two days, he will watch the test He will call on the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) on arrival and will attend a consular corps luncheon the same day. Sir lan Maclennan will give a cocktail party for the New Zealand and M.C.C. teams, with about 130 guests from sporting, commercial, civic and cultural fields. The British Trade Commissioner in the South Island (Mr P. C. Burdett) said yesterday that on February 25 Sir lan Maclennan and Lady Maclennan would be entertained to lunch by the Royal Commonwealth Society, the Royal Overseas League, the English-speaking Union, the Navy League and the Victoria League.
