FORK-LIFT TRUCKS
Duty May Be Imposed
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Jan. 28.
The Tariff and Developmen Board has urged the Govern ment to withdraw the tarifi concession on imported fork lift trucks, but thinks that the concessions on certain components for the trucks should remain in force.
Releasing the board's report today, the Minister of Customs (Mr Shelton) said that withdrawal of the concession would increase the British preferential duty to 25 per cent, with correspondingly greater increases from other sources.
“The board feels, however, that before the concession is withdrawn the substantive rates of duty payable should be reviewed, and it has therefore recommended that this aspect be made the subject of an inquiry by the board," he said. The Minister said the Government had approved the board’s recommendation, and he would ask the board to undertake the additional inquiry as soon as possible.
