BOARD SEEKS BAN ON “THE NURSES”
“The Press” Special Service
WELLINGTON, Jain. 29. The Wellington Hospital Board wants the television programme “The Nurses” banned. It thinks people might get the impression New Zealand hospitals have as much “chaos” as that depicted in the programme. The board will write to the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation expressing its concern at the showing of the programme.
Mrs P. M. Brown told the board that in nearly every episode of the feature nurses did something which would be considered unethical. “Our prospective patients might be alarmed that such chaos and so many sets of circumstances could befall the institution,” she said. “I do hope the broadcasting authorities will withdraw the programme.” The chairman, (Dr. G. Maclean) said he had been accosted on the bowling green by people who wanted to know if what was depicted on the television screen actually went on in hospitals. “I was able to assure them that these things did not happen in New Zealand hospitals.” Dr. Mclean said.
He wanted to know the possible effect of the feature on girls thinking of taking up nursing. Mrs K. M. H. WiidenhaM: I imagine they would be rushing in with their ears back.
