STALLION OF THE YEAR
Summertime Wins (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Summertime, the Englishbred stallion now standing at stud in New Zealand and whose progeny won £123,652 in stakes in Australia and New Zealand last season, is the first winner of the Stallion of the Year Trophy. The trophy- has been presented to the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association by the Scottish firm, John Dewar and Sons. The trophy is a bronze sculpture from a life-size model of the leading English stallion, Chammoisaire, by the British sulptor, John Sheaping. It will be kept by the association, which will present a miniature to the owner of the leading stallion. Summertime is owned by Mr John Malcolm of Kinross Stud at Te Kawhata. Summertime’s name will go on a silver plate on the side of the statue’s base.
